This Week at Rotary January 14, 2020
Presiding Officer: Mailani Veney
Secretary: Randy Hawthorne
Sgt. At Arms: Maury Halstead
Cashiers: Lisa Froehlich, Kate Holman & Don Kucera
Greeters: Ryan Foor & Anna Hernoud
Speaker: Matthew Wegener
Presentation: Turbine Flats: A Supporting Environment for Entrepreneurial Startups

Speaker: Matthew Wegener has been a fixture in the Lincoln Entrepreneurship scene since 2001 when his company, ISoft Data Systems opened its doors to bring in and build a community with other early-stage and start-up businesses.  Those early experiments provided the first home to companies like Allied Strategy which became Semcat, Phoenix Web Group, and Agile Sports, known today as Hudl, and in 2008, led to the creation of the Turbine Flats Project.   "The Flats" is an "Idea Community" at 22nd and Y Street, with now over 30,000 Square Feet of office/incubator space and is home to 40 companies and organizations. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month
Recently, Gov. Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation making January as Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Rotarians in Dist. 5650 are helping raise awareness in Nebraska and Iowa through our Hotel Motel project. Thank you, Rotarians! Rotary was represented at the signing of proclamation by Rotary 14 President Mailani Veney. Thank you, Allen Beermann, for the background work to ensure Rotary's participation at the capitol.

Your Passion In Action
Good News! Rotary has the resources to translate your passion into action. The Project & Grant Evaluation Committee chaired by John Gessert is accepting project or grant proposals. You can conveniently jot down your ideas via an online form, click here. A good guide for your project is Rotary's six areas of focus. If you don't have all the information or statistics you need, it's okay to just provide what you have. The implementation time frame of your proposal will be for the next Rotary year, 2020-2021. Please submit your proposal, both for local and international implementation by January 31, 2020. Questions, please contact Chair John Gessert at (402) 323-1528.

Fun time in December 2019
Here's the nice photo from our 2019 Christmas & Holiday Party that will be surely published in the 2019-2020 Rotary Yearbook. Too bad Roger Ludemann was perfectly covered by the Antlers.
RYLA has Openings
Last week, Dist. RYLA Chair Lori Benton visited our club and gave us an update about the 2020 RYLA Camp.  Lori said that fundraising has begun in earnest and she would love to see Lincoln #14 sponsor and/or mightily volunteer.
