Mulching Rotary Trees a Success
Rotary 14 Environmental Committee led by Pat Birch with several Rotarians, their family, and friends, mulched Rotary trees this past Saturday, Nov 9, to prepare the trees for winter. Rotarians At Work were Pat Birch, Mike Deibert, Erin Dobesh, Jill Grasso, Anna Hernoud, Dennis Hoffman, Gail Illich, Paul Illich, Heather Keele, Art Zygielbaum, Chris Zygielbaum. The project was documented and the video is available on Rotary's YouTube Channel, click here, and on our Facebook Page, click here. Thank you, Rotarians!
November is Rotary Foundation Month
Click here to donate online to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International.
Donating to The Rotary Foundation is a great opportunity for Rotarians to give back.  Consider making your annual donation NOW.  Your money comes back to us in three years in the form of Global and District grants to spend on our projects.  Your donation goes around the world to promote peace and conflict prevention & resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and economic and community development. Every Rotarian Every Year asks that you consider a gift of at least $100 to The Rotary Foundation.

If you have never given to TRF, Rotary 14 will match your first $100 to the Foundation, giving you $200 toward your Paul Harris Fellowship (cumulative giving of $1000).  If a member initially donates less than $100, Rotary 14 will make the match as soon as the $100 level is reached. For all other club members, the club will match any contribution above the $100 Sustaining Member level per Rotary year (minimum match is $100), but not to exceed $500.

You can also bring a check made out to The Rotary Foundation to our weekly meeting and Yolanda will send it with the contribution form to TRF. Any questions, please contact TRF Chair Scott Larson.

Last Week at Rotary
Last week at Rotary, President Mailani Veney presided the meeting. Randy Hawthorne conducted club business. Russ Free was Sgt. at Arms. We celebrated Veterans Day at Rotary via a digital parade. We heard from our own veteran Chris Hove and John McNally from the Veterans Affairs. TRF Chair Scott Larson launched his committee's campaign of TRF Giving Easy as Pie. We welcomed our newest member Ryan Foor. And we celebrated birthday for our November birthday celebrants. Angela Boule, Lisa Froehlich, and Leslie Huerta served as Cashiers. Scenes before the meeting last week: Allen Beermann brought candies for Veterans Day at Rotary, Doyle Hulme, with the help of his wife, brought those beautiful Veterans Day table centerpieces, Scott Larson came before 11:00 AM breathlessly announcing he successfully baked more than 100 pies for the TRF Giving is Easy as Pie campaign, Bankers John Gessert and Chris Hove were busy brainstorming with some earthshaking finance ideas for the club.
We have 22 November birthday celebrants but here they are who made it to the birthday table L to R: Brad Bryan, Susan Dinsmore, Scott Larson, John Gessert, Leslie Levy, & PDG Rod Bates

Healthy Lunch Change
LUNCH MENU CHANGE BEGINNING NOVEMBER 5th.
Ask five people about lunch preferences for Club meetings and one will hear six to eight ideas, or more, about what people prefer. We have had many requests for healthier lunch alternatives, lighter fare, and the full plate proponents have also been heard. At the same time the Nebraska Club has approached the Rotary Board with a needed price increase to more accurately reflect its costs (Remember our Four Way Test #2!).

Beginning November 5th we are doing a trial  run of “Super Salad Buffet” for Lunch. Each week will vary with seasonal offerings and include protein options. There will no longer be 2 choices for lunch – just the one “Super Salad Buffet”.

 For November:
  • 11/5/19 Fajita Salad with Chicken Tortilla Soup
  • 11/12/19 Blackened Beef and Blue Cheese with Cream of Mushroom Bisque
  • 11/19/19 Provence Salmon Salad with Fall Squash Soup
  • 11/26/19 Grilled Chicken and Caesar Salad with Roasted Tomato Bisque
This change will be at the current “full buffet” amount of $11.  Rotarians with pre-paid salad bar cards will have to pay the $3 difference when you check in. We will be testing out this new option for three months while also exploring other lunch/pricing alternatives. As always, if you have thoughts or questions, please let us know! Contact Doc Chaves, Mark Feit, or Christina Usher.
