There’s an electric vehicle in your future, yes there is. Our program on May 14 will feature Dr. Don Cox, an electric vehicle enthusiast and owner of several electric vehicles himself. Cox retired from a career in mobile communications research and development and returned to Nebraska and makes Lincoln his home. Transportation accounts for nearly one-third of American energy use and greenhouse gas emissions and three-quarters of American oil consumption with crucial impacts on climate, air pollution, resource depletion, and national security, said Cox, who advocates battery electric vehicles as a viable way to help address those challenges. No doubt he’ll drive one of his Tesla automobiles to the meeting. Perhaps after the meeting, he’ll proudly show it off.
Colin McWilliams is Rotary International Major Donor
Last week, President Bretz with TRF Chair Scott Larson, awarded Colin McWilliams as Major Donor of the Rotary International Foundation for his donation of $10,000.00. The award consisted of a crystal and a diamond pin. Colin owns CHM Computer Services. He has been a Rotarian for 20 years and maintains a perfect Rotary attendance for 20 years.  Thank you, Colin and Congratulations!

Welcome New Member Dennis Hoffman

Recently, Dean Settle introduced our new member Dennis Hoffman. Dennis is the Executive Director for Family Service Lincoln.  He joined the Family Service team in June 2017.  He came to Family Service with a strong background in program quality, serving vulnerable populations, and community connections.  Prior to Family Service, he was the Chief Program Officer at CenterPointe and was responsible for developing and overseeing housing and support services for individuals experiencing homelessness.  Dennis has also provided leadership in Lincoln’s Continuum of Care. His accomplishments and commitment to helping persons in need have been recognized including as the recipient of Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach’s Compassion in Action Award.

Dennis is a Lincoln native. He has two sons who have chosen unique career paths. His oldest is a professional baseball player and his youngest is in school studying livestock management.  His partner is an established commercial interior designer, architect, and fellow Rotarian.  Dennis enjoys the outdoors, biking and working in the yard.  He also loves the nostalgia of baseball and old motorcycles.

Search for Rotarian of the Year is On!

The search is on for the most coveted award of the year at Rotary, the Rotarian of the Year Award. Please consider nominating a fellow Rotarian that you believe exemplifies what it means to be a Rotarian for this prestigious award. The nomination form with more details can be found here or contact Committee Chair Mike Wortman.

The Rotary Foundation YTD Donations
Thank you to the following Rotarians who already contributed to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International. If you have not already given, please consider making your annual donation by sending a check payable to The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693, USA or give your check to Yolanda. You may also conveniently contribute online at Rotary.org/give. If this is your first time to give, Rotary #14 will match your first $100 to the Foundation giving you $200 toward your Paul Harris Fellowship, a cumulative giving of $1,000. Your donation comes back to us in three years in the form of Global and District grants. An example of Global Grant is our Colonoscopy screening in the Dominican Republic and the Anti-Human Trafficking project for District Grant. Questions, please contact TRF Chair Scott Larson.
