From the Desk of Dr. Randall Bretz, Rotary 14 President 2018-19
June 25 is a celebration of what Rotary 14 has accomplished in our 109th year. When I started my year as President of Rotary 14, I challenged our members to get involved in creating ripples of hope that would build into a river-like current, working together to make a positive impact on Lincoln, Nebraska, and the farthest corners of the world. I wanted us to live the Rotary theme “Be the Inspiration.”
During our time together you’ll see that we’ve done that. During my term we:
Culminated a 2-year effort to raise funds to renew the playground at Everett Elementary School.
Decided to expand our efforts in Lincoln’s South of Downtown area outside the walls of Everett and helped establish a neighborhood Art Hub.
Celebrated Jon Cook as Nebraskan of the Year and Firespring in our Salute to Business
Served thousands of meals at The Gathering Place, gave away thousands of dictionaries to 4th graders, rang the bells for Salvation Army, helped clean one of our city’s parks, read books to Everett children and a whole lot more.
Gave support to international projects bringing water to African villages, purchased medical equipment for a clinic in the Dominican Republic and helped provide workshops in Namibia.
Provided grants to Junior Achievement, the LPS Foundation, Bright Lights, LPS Libraries, Lincoln Parks Foundation and many more.
We’re part of a world-wide movement of some 1.2 million Rotarians doing good things in our world. It’s been an honor and privilege to serve as President of Rotary 14, Lincoln’s oldest and largest service club.
