Climate change poses significant risks to Nebraska’s economy, environment, and citizens. Our program for May 7 will feature a presentation by Dr. Don Wilhite, professor emeritus of Applied Climate Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Wilhite directed the National Drought Mitigation Center at UNL and worked with many federal and state agencies on climate and drought-related issues. During our program, he’ll discuss how responses are needed from all sectors of life in Nebraska, from the agriculture community to the legislature, and from the corporate sector to community organizations to deal with the challenges of our changing climate.
Congratulations to Firespring
The 27th Annual Salute to Business (STB) was a huge success! Over 500 guests joined the Lincoln Rotarians in honoring Firespring as the 2019 Salute to Business honoree. Congratulations to Firespring CEO Jay Wilkinson and the entire Firespring organization! Special thanks to Doc Chaves, STB Chair and his committee for all their hard work to make it a successful event and for executing the awards ceremony on April 30, 2019, with the classic Rotary precision.

Launch into Learning at Everett
Launch into Learning at Everett was successfully carried out by Committee Chair Angela Boule and Rotarians Tom Allman, Jennifer Brinkman, Jan Brockley, Pat Crews, Keith Larsen, Sarah Peetz, and Kevin Wailes.  Rotarians helped Everett Elementary students celebrate at Launch into Learning this past Thursday. This event celebrated the students as they neared the end of the school year and prepared for a summer of learning. Kids played games to earn "fun money" which they then got to spend at a book fair at the end of the evening. Every child left with books and big smiles on their faces! Rotarians helped make snow cones, sold raffle tickets, played games, and enjoyed foods from many different cultures. THANK YOU ROTARIANS for helping make this event a success. Here are some photos:

Search for Rotarian of the Year is On!

The search is on for the most coveted award of the year at Rotary, the Rotarian of the Year Award. Please consider nominating a fellow Rotarian that you believe exemplifies what it means to be a Rotarian for this prestigious award. The nomination form with more details can be found here or contact Committee Chair Mike Wortman.
Rotary Garden Clean Up
Thank you to Keith Larsen for coordinating our Rotary Strolling Garden Clean up Project. Rotarians moved trimmed plant materials to trucks, cleaned the benches, and picked up litter in the area. Thank you to all the Rotarians who helped!

The Rotary Foundation YTD Donations
Thank you to the following Rotarians who already contributed to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) of Rotary International. If you have not already given, please consider making your annual donation by sending a check payable to The Rotary Foundation, 14280 Collections Center Drive, Chicago, IL 60693, USA or give your check to Yolanda. You may also conveniently contribute online at Rotary.org/give. If this is your first time to give, Rotary #14 will match your first $100 to the Foundation giving you $200 toward your Paul Harris Fellowship, a cumulative giving of $1,000. Your donation comes back to us in three years in the form of Global and District grants. An example of Global Grant is our Colonoscopy screening in the Dominican Republic and the Anti-Human Trafficking project for District Grant. Questions, please contact TRF Chair Scott Larson.
