The Mandela Fellows
 
Tomorrow July 23, we'll meet 25 engaging young folks from all across Africa. Our program will feature comments from two members of this year's group of Mandela Fellows who are spending a month in Lincoln. Come meet these interesting people. Come be encouraged about the future of Africa. Come be inspired about how we can contribute to our world through connecting with these folks.
 
Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders: UNL is in its third year hosting the Mandela Washington Fellowship Leadership in Civic Engagement Institute. This prestigious State Department sponsored program is designed to explore how individuals and organizations shape local communities by identifying, analyzing, collaborating, and solving societal needs and issues. Twenty-five Fellows representing 18 Sub-Saharan countries arrived in Lincoln on June 19 and have been living and learning on UNL campus through Friday, July 26. Linda Major, director of UNL's Center for Civic Engagement, will introduce two of the Fellows to share remarks with Rotary 14 about their experience in Lincoln and their work at home in Africa. The Rotary District 5650 District Conference is on July 26 and 27 - Lied Lodge and Conference Center, Nebraska City.  The theme this year is “Shape the Future”. We have many things planned – one of which will be a cruise on the Belle of Brownville boat! Last Week at Rotary
Last week at Rotary, President Mailani Veney presided the meeting, while Eric Drumheller filled in for Randy Hawthorne as Secretary. We heard from John Ricks regarding their Nebraska Tourism campaign. We had several announcements and we showed everyone Lisa Sypal's adorable twins. Rotarians were ecstatic to participate in our Aloha Time. Frosty Critchfield, Leslie Huerta & Lisa Froehlich served as Cashiers, while Eric Drumheller, Ben Martens, Josh Overocker served as Greeters. Meet RI President Maloney
2019-2020 RI President Mark Daniel Maloney is a principal in the law firm of Blackburn, Maloney, and Schuppert LLC, with a focus on taxation, estate planning, and agricultural law. He represents large farming operations in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States, and has chaired the American Bar Association’s Committee on Agriculture in the section of taxation.
