A year ago District Governor Tom Cardwell asked former DG Sharon Wherry to be his co-chair of the District 5650 Human Trafficking Committee. They spent the last year talking to former FBI agents, current Attorney General staff and service providers working in the area of trafficking in order to find the best way for Rotarians to become involved as encouraged from Rotary International.
A decision was made to form an alliance with the Human Trafficking Coalition, a non-profit out of Omaha. Their Hotel/Motel Project was the perfect vehicle to engage Rotarians who were passionate about ending trafficking. Dan and Sharon attended the 4-hour training and are in the process of training Lincoln hotel staff on the signs of trafficking and the ways to respond.
Additionally Dan and Sharon are making presentations at clubs in our District to encourage others to become trained to educate their local hotels/motels. The Coalition on Human Trafficking provides the slide shows and scripts for all presentations.
