Jon Gayer is an Air Force brat who now calls Lincoln Nebraska home. Born in Warner Robbins, Georgia, Jon’s childhood was spent traipsing across the United States and globe. He eventually settled in Albuquerque New Mexico where he received his BS degree from the University of New Mexico. In 2002 he received both his MA and Ph.D. from UNL and is a disciple of Dr. Jim Greisen’s tutelage in student affairs administration. The real quick introduction is that Jon has worked over the last 20 years in the fraternity and sorority community. He has spent time working with this population in Kentucky, New Mexico, and Nebraska. He spent 8 years teaching leadership theory for student organizations at the University of New Mexico. He moved back to Lincoln in 2015 with his wife and two kids. Jon looks forward to all of the great work that Lincoln’s Rotary 14 will accomplish and hopes to contribute his talents to this wonderful organization.

Our ties to Everett Elementary are strong, and not even a pandemic can keep us from connecting with the students, so we transitioned Read Aloud at Everett to Zoom. The new format has been successful, as we have had Rotary readers virtually in the classroom every week since September 18. Shout out to U.S. Bank for being the sponsor of the Read Aloud program this year, providing 2 new books per month to each Everett child we read to throughout the school year. “U.S. Bank is a proud member of the Lincoln community and thrilled to have the opportunity to support the students, teachers, and families at Everett Elementary by sponsoring books for Rotary 14’s Read Aloud program. At our core is a commitment to caring for where we live, work, & play. U.S. Bank serves its customers as a trusted financial partner and has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as one of the 2020 World’s Most Ethical Companies for the sixth consecutive year.” Special thanks to Ben Martens for his help in securing this sponsorship! Sign up now to read, using the link in this newsletter. It’s easier than ever, takes only 25 minutes out of your day with no travel time, and the Everett students enjoy it so much! ~ Chair Christie Weston
