Hans Sturm

Our program on June 18 features Hans Sturm, Professor of Music at UNL and Executive Director of the Meadowlark Music Festival. Called “the Festival to Watch” by Chamber Music America, Meadowlark Music Festival was founded in 2001 by Dr. Ann Chang, Artistic Director at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. With the assistance of current Board of Directors President – Clay Bradley, Executive Director - Hans Sturm, an active and working Board of Directors, and widespread community and foundation support, Meadowlark is now well into its 2nd decade of music performances. Sturm came to Lincoln to teach at UNL after 17 years at Ball State University (David Letterman U). He has toured six continents, making a wide range of music.

He’s described his presentation this way:
But you've got to have a reason...
Of all the instruments to choose from, why bass?
What would make you give up a tenure?
You're so busy, why take on a struggling music festival?
This is why I love Lincoln.
This is why I love Meadowlark... and why you will too.
Tammy Ward Elected to Lincoln City Council

Our own Rotarian, Tammy Ward was elected on May 7, 2019, to represent residents of the Northwest Lincoln City Council District # 4.

Tammy is President of Tammy J. Ward, LLC, providing advocacy training, community outreach and project management to a variety of clients representing seniors, veterans and other clients.

She is the former Vice Chair of the Lincoln Electric System Board of Directors (LES), serves on the University of Nebraska President’s Advisory Council and is a Board member for Lincoln’s Downtown Rotary Club #14.

Prior to starting her own business, Tammy served as the Executive Director of the Seniors Foundation of Lincoln and Lancaster County. While at the Seniors Foundation,  she helped lead the development team that successfully persuaded the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to select the Lincoln VA campus as the site for the new Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) after nearly a seven-year search.

Tammy was also a former Congressional aide to U.S. Senator Ben Nelson,  where she was the District Manager in the Lincoln office, responsible for management and staff supervision and overseeing constituent services and outreach. She served in the Lincoln Mayor’s Office, the Nebraska Governor’s Office, the Nebraska Legislature, the Nebraska Department of Economic Development and is a Past President of the South Salt Creek Community Neighborhood Organization. CONGRATULATIONS, TAMMY!
