Welcome Newest Member Mike Deibert

Recently, Tammy Ward introduced our newest member Mike Deibert. Mike is a Colorado native and big Denver Broncos fan. He and his wife Anna have been married for 34 years, and have two sons.  Their older son, lives in Texas along with their daughter in-law and three grandchildren. Their youngest son, is serving in the U.S. Air Force and lives in Germany along with their daughter in-law.

While living in Colorado, Mike coached little league baseball and was active with the Boy Scouts.

In 1999 he and his family moved to Scottsbluff Nebraska where they quickly settled in.  During his 15 years in Scottsbluff, he continued to support the boy scouts of America and served on the board with his wife. Mike also served on the Scottsbluff YMCA board.  He ran for and was elected to the Scottsbluff City Council in 2010, serving for three of his four year term prior to moving to Lincoln. In 2014, he and his wife moved to Lincoln to take an advancement with Nebraska Machinery Company (NMC CAT).  He is currently the Operations Manager for the Lincoln store.  Wanting to become involved in the Lincoln community, he joined TeamMates in 2014 and continues as a mentor today.  In addition, he is currently Vice President of the West O St. Business Association board.  In his spare time, he and his wife enjoy long walks and cycling. He holds a BS in International Business and MBA in Finance. Welcome to Rotary, Mike!

Healthy Lunch Change
LUNCH MENU CHANGE BEGINNING NOVEMBER 5th.
Ask five people about lunch preferences for Club meetings and one will hear six to eight ideas, or more, about what people prefer. We have had many requests for healthier lunch alternatives, lighter fare, and the full plate proponents have also been heard. At the same time the Nebraska Club has approached the Rotary Board with a needed price increase to more accurately reflect its costs (Remember our Four Way Test #2!).

Beginning November 5th we are doing a trial  run of “Super Salad Buffet” for Lunch. Each week will vary with seasonal offerings and include protein options. There will no longer be 2 choices for lunch – just the one “Super Salad Buffet”.

 For November:
  • 11/5/19 Fajita Salad with Chicken Tortilla Soup
  • 11/12/19 Blackened Beef and Blue Cheese with Cream of Mushroom Bisque
  • 11/19/19 Provence Salmon Salad with Fall Squash Soup
  • 11/26/19 Grilled Chicken and Caesar Salad with Roasted Tomato Bisque
This change will be at the current “full buffet” amount of $11.  Rotarians with pre-paid salad bar cards will have to pay the $3 difference when you check in. We will be testing out this new option for three months while also exploring other lunch/pricing alternatives. As always, if you have thoughts or questions, please let us know! Contact Doc Chaves, Mark Feit, or Christina Usher.
Regina Werum Meet up with RYE in Spain
Regina Werum update from Berlin – via Spain.  Recently, we traveled to northern Spain and were able to reconnect with two former RYE students and their families: Ruben (Zaragoza) and Tatun (Pamplona).

In the process, the  Pamplona Rotary club invited us to their weekly dinner meeting and we got to tour the storied place where they hold their meetings at the Nuevo Casino in the Plaza del Castillo downtown Pamplona.  Mind you, this is where luminaries like Ernest Hemingway, Deborah Kerr, and Anthony Quinn used to hang out.  This week they had to put up with “just us.”  We also had the opportunity to exchange club flags.  Here are some photos.

Last Week at Rotary
Last week at Rotary, President Mailani Veney presided the meeting. Randy Hawthorne conducted club business. Maury Halstead was Sgt. at Arms. Doc Chaves was a speaker host. We heard from Mike Kelley some exciting facts at the Museum of American Speed. We had several announcements. NEOS co-chairs PP Mark Stephens and Leslie Levy presided the Blue Badge Ceremony for Leslie Huerta, Gail Illich, and John Zimmer. Lisa Froehlich and Suzanne Sughroue served as Cashiers. Todd Crawford and Josh Overocker served as Greeters. To sign up as Cashier, click/tap here. To serve as Greeter, click/tap here.
